HOLA Blue Bayou Nation!
The bite is getting good as more boats make their way off shore these days.  Oct marks one of the better months for targeting blue marlin in Guatemala, as well as the sailfish numbers are healthy to our standard (most boats raising 20 plus a day).

This past week we had many folks out enjoying the inshore bite as well as the off shore bite.
Inshore being the short 9 mile run to the ''cut'' where we are greeted with very blue water, and debris lines.  These debris lines are holding as many mahi as you want, with blue marlin lurking as well.
However, we have found that 30 miles on either side of the pockets seams will get you into sailfish.  The key being spread out with other boats and open communication on the VHF radios to make sure we are staying ontop of the school.  These fish move very quickly and its very important all Capts keep an open mind on reporting.  Each time we have been out, we have raised at least 1 blue, while pulling the hook on ever other bite (rusty anglers).

For now Terrafin (below picture) is showing us where the blue water is and isn't to assure the clients they are in the best possible water for catching the bills.  Next week the Blue Bayou Lodge is very busy, so hold on for more reports to come.

sept 9 2014 report

This past rainy season has been a lite one.  The mahi mahi have still be in good numbers, but the steady temps on the surface are holding the bills near by as well.  Short runs, and consistent water temps are a good thing.  This happens ever so often, and usually, statistically, this means a great Oct to December start, and close steady runs throughout the season, well into the following rainy season (June).

While the charters are lean and mostly weekend based, its been very good.  25 sailfish in a day on average, with loads of mahi and even big blue marlin showing up have been the story since July.  The current blue water is holding tight and the temps are perfect!  We have some prime dates for the early part of the season while Oct is booked out!  Get your Nov and December dates while they are still available.  For now enjoy todays terrafin report of Iztapa Guatemala.  Tight Lines, Capt Chris Starrs
