Guatemala Fishing Report Feburary 5, 2010

Well the end of January and the beginning of Feburary goes like this: With the father and son repeat group from Michigan, from last year we were able to slam the sails. Last year this time we also did pretty well. Releasing at least 12 sails a day for 15 to 18 bites in a 6 hour time period. This year was a bit different. For starters each time we raised a Sail, we would have at least a double or triple no matter what. They were schooling for sure, vs hitting one at a time. So that was a change for the better. The results were pretty much the same, but I would say at least 20 bites for 2 of the 3 days we were out. Secondly, the weather was less forgiving. While Guatemala is known for extremely calm seas, we got rocked each day. 6 foot rollers is tough to handle but the bite was not affected. This strong wind over that week actually blew the productive blue water from 20 miles to 15 miles in 2 days, and then 8 miles just a few days later. At the moment we are currently fishing at only 8 miles with calm seas and at least 20 to 30 raised sails as a result. We have some spots open this March which is my favorite time, hope to see you soon.
